Mike McCormack has over 25 years of professional experience, including working for five companies in four different industries before starting PeopleRight in 2002. He has worked in companies from 200 to more than 50,000 employees, and directed up to 70 people and projects in the tens of millions of dollars. Ten years of his career was spent working for Andersen Consulting and CSC Consulting.
It was through this diverse series of experiences and environments that he realized that there must be a better way for companies to create job match opportunities for their employees. He has leveraged this information to assist students and professionals in transition in making better life and career decisions.
Mike served on the Board of Trustees for The Cambridge School of Dallas for two years. He has been married to Vicki for 25 years and has 2 children in college.
That’s the ‘short and pretty’ version of his work history. But his detailed history is what has uniquely prepared him for what PeopleRight Careers focuses on today – which is to guide others toward roles, positions, opportunities, and careers where they can leverage their individual gifts in a way that allows them to accomplish their life’s mission. The longer version of his work history includes:
- Graduated from Texas A&M with a degree in Civil Engineering
- Career 1 - Civil Engineer for the U S Army Corp of Engineers, followed by two years working as an General Engineerfor the U S Dept. of Energy
- Returned to Texas A&M for two years to get a MBA
- Started 2nd career by spending 3 years as a Staff and Senior Consultant for Andersen Consulting, focusing mainly on large IT systems implementations
- Business Analyst for a sporting goods company that acquired over 10 companies in 5 years – rose through the ranks to become the MIS Manager
- IT Director for a specialty manufacturing company
- Career 3 - back to consulting for a ‘Big 5′ consulting firm, spending the first year as a Project Manager and anOrganizational Change Consultant, then the next five years as the Regional Professional Development Manager – basically developing and delivering training programs designed to help consultants become better consultants
- Along the way, for fun and an escape from the pressures of his work life, Mike’s hobby was officiating high school and college basketball games, and he rose to Division I Referee in mens’ basketball
- When the ‘dot.com’ bust hit in 2001, he got the opportunity to start over once again (career #4), but this time – and for the first time – he was purposeful about leveraging his skills, behaviors and gifts into a career that he was uniquely gifted for and was passionate about. Over the last 8+ years he has seen thousands of assessment results and how they correlated to on-the-job performance.
Mike began working with students and professionals in career transition about five years ago, sharing what he had learned from working with businesses, and now works with individuals, schools, and businesses focusing on showing others how to find work that they are uniquely gifted for.
The long version summary is that Mike has worked for five companies and had ten different job titles (plus one high profile hobby), and has started his career over from scratch four times. He has never left a job because of poor performance, and he likes to tell people, “Out of those ten jobs, there are about eight that I would never want to experience again.” He is passionate about helping others to find where their gifts and the needs of the world meet.
“Human beings are a passionate species. We want to engage in meaningful work.“
